There’s a lot of buzz around prioritising self-care right now – and in our opinion, it should always be front of mind. A healthy daily routine that focuses on our inner and outer health is so important when it comes to looking after your physical health, stress levels and overall wellbeing and happiness. We’ve pulled our favourite wellness tips together to create a healthy morning routine that will help you kick start your day the “wellness” way.

Benefits of a healthy daily routine

Wellness routines and self-care rituals are a wonderful way to bring balance and structure into busy lives, especially when it comes to your general health and wellbeing. Some of our favourite benefits of a healthy daily routine are:

A wellness routine will look different for everyone, so tailor yours to suit your needs, schedule and what you actually enjoy. In this blog we’ll give you some tips and tricks to help create a healthy daily routine that you can add to with activities that you love and that make you feel good. Maybe it’s yoga, maybe it’s exercise or maybe it’s relaxing with a good book. Whatever it is – find what works for you and it will be so much easier to stick to it.

And sticking with it is the important part - researchers say it takes 4 - 6 weeks for tasks to become a habit - and that’s when you get into the good stuff! Once your new routine becomes a habit, it means you no longer need to rely on motivation to keep up with those extra activities that support a healthy life.

We recommend keeping a wellness journal to track what makes you a happier version of yourself so you know what to keep and what to drop from your routine. To kick start your healthy morning routine, we suggest setting an alarm earlier than you usually would. This means you can relax and enjoy it, rather than rushing through the steps or skipping it because you just don’t have time. To get you started, a healthy morning routine could look a little like this:

 

  • Make your bed. Simple, right? This small task has been coined by journalist and author Charles Duhigg as a ‘keystone habit’, meaning it has the potential to have a positive ripple effect in other aspects of your life. Research tells us that making your bed in the morning can also have positive mental health benefits, including a sense of accomplishment and increased productivity.

  • Exercise. Whether you like to walk or jog, go to the gym, or stretch in the comfort of your own home, moving your body in the morning is a great way to get those endorphins flowing.

  • Perform a basic skincare routine.
