Five ways to keep summer skin hydrated

Home / Glow School / Five ways to keep summer skin hydrated

Summer’s brings hot, sunny days, a busier social calendar and in turn, an extra aperol spritz (or five). As fun as these things are, they can dehydrate our skin and leave it looking less plump and glowy than we’d like. To give our summer skin a fighting chance, we’ve pulled together five of our favourite ways to keep skin hydrated over the warmer months.

Up your water intake

This one goes without saying, right? Luckily, it doesn’t have to just be extra glasses of water. You can up your water intake with yummy drinks like coconut water, iced tea or an icy cold glass of Renew+ or Beauty Brain. As well as eating fruit and veggies that are rich in water – things like strawberries, watermelon, peaches, lettuce, celery and zucchinis. Fruit salad, anyone?

Slip, slop, slap + wrap

The fundamentals of any summer! Sunblock should be reapplied every couple of hours (yep, seriously), and we can’t forget the easy-to-forget areas like the hands, feet and ears too! To take sun protection one step further, we love throwing on a wide-brim hat and parking up underneath a big umbrella when we’re outside.

Face mists are your friend!

A face mist is the easiest way to stay fresh-faced on the go. Whether you’re using it as a step in your skincare routine or as a pick-me-up throughout the day, a quick spritz can revive dehydrated skin in seconds. Make sure you pick a mist with hydrating, nourishing ingredients like Squalane, Hyaluronic Acid or Glycerin.

Keep showers short

You can’t beat a hot shower at the end of a salty, sunny day at the beach, but spending too long showering, having too many showers, or having your water too hot strips away your skin’s natural oils and can affect your skin’s microbiome. So, stick to a lukewarm 5-minute rinse (once a day when possible).

Switch up your skincare routine

If you love your skincare routine and it works for you year-round, there’s no need to change a thing! But as the weather gets warmer, some people like to swap out rich repair creams or oils for lightweight, energising moisturisers, as well as using lighter, foaming cleansers instead of hydrating ones, and adding an extra night of exfoliation per week. There’s no one-size-fits-all, so have a play around and do what works best for your skin! But the one thing we recommend for everyone in summer is to moisturise, moisturise, moisturise – and that goes for your whole body.
